If you are looking for a ComfyUI alternative, there are about five real ones, and which is right depends on what you are trying to get away from. The node graph. The Python install that breaks. The VRAM ceiling. Or the machine you own. Those are four different problems, and two of them are not solved by leaving ComfyUI at all.
I build SimpliGen, which is one of the options below. It is in the list where it belongs rather than at the top, and the section on it says plainly who should not buy it.
What is the best one?
There is no single best one, because the tools split by the problem they remove rather than by quality. If you want the same models with less maintenance, look at SwarmUI or SimpliGen; if you like the graph and only hate the install, ComfyUI Desktop already solves that; if you do not own an NVIDIA card, your answer is ComfyUI itself or a browser canvas, and nothing else on this page.
Why do people leave in the first place?
For two different reasons, and the order matters. Most people quit at the graph itself and never get far enough to meet the second reason, which is the maintenance underneath it.
I have watched this from both sides. Most people who end up with SimpliGen tell me the same thing: they opened ComfyUI, saw the wall of nodes and wires, spent an evening trying to get one image out of it, and quit. Not because they are not capable, but because they wanted a picture, not a diagram.
That group never gets far enough to hit the second problem, which is the one that got me. I spent two years in ComfyUI before SimpliGen, and the setups I lost were never lost to the graph. They were lost to one custom node pulling in a newer version of a library that another node still needed.
That failure even followed me into my own product. In June, installing one video preset upgraded a shared library and silently broke every LTX preset on the same machine. In August, a community pack pinned a shared helper node to a release from 2023, and every official preset broke at once. Nobody did anything wrong. Two packs disagreed about a version, and the last one installed won.
So SimpliGen has to solve both: no graph at all for the first group, and for the second, one pinned engine environment that every pack has to fit, with anything that does not fit refused at install and the installed packages checked instead of trusted.
Should you just use ComfyUI Desktop?
For a lot of people, yes, and it is worth trying before you pay anyone anything. ComfyUI now ships a desktop application that the project calls "the easiest and best way to use ComfyUI for new users", available on Windows and macOS, and it removes the part most people actually struggle with, which is getting Python and CUDA into a working state.
What it does not remove is the graph. You still wire nodes, you still install custom nodes, and you still own the consequences when one of them breaks. If the graph is genuinely the thing you dislike, the desktop app will not change your mind.
Is SwarmUI a good alternative?
It is the strongest option if you want a normal interface and are happy to keep maintaining things yourself. SwarmUI is MIT licensed, it can auto-install ComfyUI and run it as its backend, and its Generate tab gives beginners a plain prompt box while the Comfy Workflow tab still exposes "the unrestricted raw graph" when you need it.
The honest comparison with a paid app is this: SwarmUI costs nothing and does most of what a friendly front end should do. What you take on is the setup, the model wrangling and the updates. If that sounds like a fair trade, take it. It is a genuinely good project and recommending it costs me nothing.
What about InvokeAI, Fooocus and the other names in every list?
They are worth knowing about, but two of them are older recommendations that get repeated past their expiry date. InvokeAI is Apache-2.0 licensed, runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and is built around a structured canvas for people who want to compose and edit rather than prompt and hope, so it suits illustration and iteration work.
Fooocus is the one to check the date on. Its README states the project is "built entirely on the Stable Diffusion XL architecture" and is "now in a state of limited long-term support (LTS) with bug fixes only", with "no current plans to migrate to or incorporate newer model architectures". It is still pleasant to use, but if you want the current video and image models, it is not where they will arrive.
Are the browser node canvases a real alternative?
They are, for one specific situation: you have no usable GPU. RunComfy, Wireflow, Astorie and NodeTool all move the canvas into the browser and rent you the hardware, which means no install, no VRAM limit and no drivers.
You trade three things for that. Your images leave your machine, your costs recur for as long as you keep generating, and the model list is theirs rather than yours. That is fine for occasional work and expensive for daily work.
Where does SimpliGen fit?
It is for people who want the ComfyUI model ecosystem and do not want to operate it. SimpliGen keeps ComfyUI underneath, installing a portable Python and ComfyUI engine the first time you run a local preset, and puts a three step wizard on top: pick a media type, pick a style, describe the shot. You install a preset instead of building a graph, and you can still add your own LoRAs from a HuggingFace or CivitAI link or a file on your disk.
Two things make it different from the rest of this list. It is a one-time licence rather than a subscription, and generating locally on your own GPU has no per-generation cost and no quota, while cloud credits are optional, never expire and do not auto-renew. Some presets are bring your own key, where you supply a Gemini, Veo or GPT Image key and that provider bills you directly.
Do not buy it if any of these is you: you are on AMD, Intel, macOS or Linux; you want the raw graph, because SimpliGen deliberately does not give you one; or you are happy maintaining your own stack, in which case SwarmUI does this for nothing.
Is there an alternative for AMD, Mac or Linux?
Yes, and it is ComfyUI. The project supports AMD, Intel Arc, Apple silicon and more alongside NVIDIA, and it is available on Windows, Linux and macOS, so on non-NVIDIA hardware the incumbent is also the most capable option.
SimpliGen cannot help you here and I would rather say so than waste your time. Local generation needs an NVIDIA RTX 20-series card or newer, AMD and Intel GPUs are not supported, and the installer is a Windows executable that will not run on macOS. SwarmUI and InvokeAI both run on macOS if you want something friendlier than the graph.
So which should you pick?
Pick by the constraint you cannot change rather than by the feature list. Your GPU decides most of it: if it is not an NVIDIA card the list is short, and if it is, the only real question left is whether you would rather spend time or money.

What should you do next?
Try ComfyUI Desktop or SwarmUI first if you have not, because they cost nothing and one of them may be all you needed. If you have already been through that and the maintenance is the reason you stopped generating, see what SimpliGen does differently or check whether your GPU is up to it before you spend anything.
